BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida A&M's Sydney Humes has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the period of September 8-14, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon from its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Sydney Humes, a 5-foot-5 senior from Homewood, Alabama, was a defensive catalyst for the Rattlers over the weekend competing in the Dolphin Volleyball Classic presented by Hampton Inn East Regency in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
Across three matches on the weekend, Humes led with Rattlers with 42 digs including a 13-dig performance in the five-setter thriller win against UConn, later going on to add another 20 against Coastal Carolina. The Homewood High alum averaged 3.50 digs per set through three matches played while adding two service aces and six assists.
 
She also handed out nine assists and registered a pair of service aces for the Orange and Green.
 
FAMU returns to the court next when hosting the three-day FAMU Tournament at Al Lawson Center taking place September 10-12. The Rattlers first begin the event Thursday, Sept. 10, facing off against Louisiana-Lafayette at 6 p.m.
